Breast Cancer Awareness

Understanding Breast Cancer

Breast cancer affects millions worldwide and occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably.

Early awareness and timely detection are critical in improving outcomes.

🎗️ Be Alert, Be Aware

Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

Symptoms & Signs

Early detection saves lives. Be aware of these common symptoms and consult a healthcare professional if you notice any of these signs.

Lumps in the Breast or Underarm

A new lump or mass is the most common symptom. Most lumps are painless, though some may be tender.

Changes in Breast Size or Shape

Swelling of all or part of the breast, or any unexplained change in breast size or shape should be examined.

Nipple Discharge

Discharge other than breast milk, including blood, should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

Persistent Breast Pain

While breast pain is common and usually not a sign of cancer, persistent pain should be checked.

Skin Changes

Dimpling, puckering, redness, or thickening of the breast skin resembling an orange peel.

Nipple Changes

Nipple turning inward (inversion), scaling, crusting, or any unusual changes to the nipple.

Prevention

While some risk factors cannot be changed, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of breast cancer

Regular Screenings

Schedule regular mammograms as recommended by your doctor. Early detection through screening can find cancer before symptoms appear.

Healthy Diet

Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Limit processed foods and red meat consumption.

Regular Exercise

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. Exercise helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces risk.

Limit Alcohol

If you drink alcohol, limit consumption. Even low levels of alcohol intake have been linked to increased breast cancer risk.

Avoid Smoking

Don't smoke. Research suggests a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, especially in premenopausal women.

Know Your Family History

Understand your family history of breast cancer. If you have a strong family history, talk to your doctor about additional screening options.
